The New American Commentary Series

In development for over a decade, The New American Commentary series is for those who have been seeking a commentary that honors the Scriptures, represents the finest in contemporary evangelical scholarship and lends itself to practical work of preaching and teaching. This comprehensive series serves as a minister's friend and a Bible student's guide.

The New American Commentary is based on the inerrancy of Scripture, focuses on the intrinsic theological and exegetical concerns of each Biblical book, and engages the range of issues raised in contemporary Biblical scholarship. Drawing on the skills and insight of over forty Bible scholars, the New American Commentary brings together scholarship and piety to produce a tool that enhances and supports the life of the church.

Highlights of This Volume

The Book of Numbers is about faithfulness. It recounts thought-provoking accounts of man's sinfulness and God's divine grace. It answers questions such as: Why did the people of Israel wander for forty years in the desert? Can God overpower the will of any human heart? Will God follow through with His promises even if man disobeys Him? Through a careful examination, Dr. Cole reveals the historical and theological truths in this crucial but often-neglected text.

About the Author

R. Dennis Cole (Th.D., New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary) is Professor of Old Testament and Archaeology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He has taken part in excavations at Beersheba, Timnah, Qasile, Beth Shean, and Tel Rehob. He is also the author of a commentary on Jeremiah and many articles on biblical archaeology and Old Testament studies. He is the translator of Numbers for the Holman Christian Standard Bible.

The New American Commentary is nothing short of excellent. The scholarship is superb and up-to-date. The format is fresh and is totally given to a revealing of the meaning of the text. No stone seems to be left unturned. Both exegetically and homiletically, pastors will find a veritable gold mine of information. I believe this series will set the standard for years to come.
Dr. James G. Merritt, Pastor, Cross Pointe Church, Duluth, Georgia
The New American Commentary will prove to be most useful to pastor, study leaders, and serious Bible students. I appreciate the format, outlines, introductions, careful and scholarly exegesis, and application. All of these will prove most helpful.
Dr. D. Stuart Briscoe, Minister-at-Large, Elmbrook Church, Waukesha, WI
