I Thessalonians 1

This first chapter of I Thessalonians is quite brief. It is in character mostly part of his opening greeting. It rejoices in the salvation and service of the Thessalonians. I Thessalonians 1 may be divided into three major parts as follows:

  1. The Salutation to the Thessalonians (I Thess. 1:1)
  2. The Salvation of the Thessalonians (I Thess. 1:2-6,9,10)
  3. The Service of the Thessalonians (I Thess. 1:7, 8)

I Thessalonians 1:1

A traditional opening salutation begins the book of I Thessalonians. In our letters we leave the writer's identity to the end of the letter, but in Paul's epistles the writer's identity is at the beginning with the opening salutation

1. The Greeters (I Thessalonians 1:1)

"Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus" (I Thessalonians 1:1). Three outstanding believers were the greeters.
