Old Testament

Man's Beginning

Genesis 1:26

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after out likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth." (Genesis 1:26)

You will not read anything close to this text in our schools, for our schools are given to and controlled by evolution thinking, because evolution thinking leaves out God. Man does not want God in his thinking and will embrace the most ridiculous theories if the theory leaves out God. That accounts for the popularity of evolution thinking in education. Evolution does not win by wisdom but by wickedness.

"God said, Let us make man" The Bible does not agree with evolution. It states plainly that God made the creation.

The trinity in the designer. "Us." This speaks of more than one person God is not speaking to angels or other beings as they were part of creation. God is three, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three are represented by "us." in our text.

The theology in the designer. "Let us make." God is Sovereign. That is God does what He wants, when He wants, where He want and how He wants. If God cannot do that, He is not God. It was God's decision to make the earth and to create man. The idea that man is Sovereign is foreign in the thinking of Scripture.

"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish ... fowl ... cattle ... the earth ... every creeping thing." This was the original design of man in his creation.

The dignity in the design. "In our image, after our likeness." This is not said of animals. Man was given a dignity at creation that nothing else has. If man descended from an animal, this text is not true, but this text is true. Man did not descend from animal. He was made in the image and likeness of God. Evolution does not give dignity to man. It lowers man to a beastly composition in origin and conduct (barnyard morals, etc.). The low beastly behavior of man is a result of rejecting God.

The dominion in the design. "Let them have dominion." Man originally was to have great dominion. Only Jesus Christ had this dominion over creation when He was on earth. Man lost his dominion through sin. It will come back during the millennium when Christ rules and the "sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp" (Isaiah 11:8). Grown men cannot do that today. Sin does not give you power, sin makes you weak and takes away you dominion. You may enjoy power from Satan for a season, but in the end you will be as weak as water and have no power whatever. The macho man is not the sinful man. The Marlboro man is a delusion. Satan loves to picture sin as big and strong when it make man small and weak.
